WINTER TERM 2020

Curricular Areas – Main Focus:

English and Literacy:

Writing: we will focus on descriptive language and imagery in Halloween stories; we will continue to develop variety in sentence structures, ambitious vocabulary and the use of a thesaurus to extend vocabulary. As part of Scottish Book Week, pupils will research, write and present the biography of a favourite author. 

Reading: research favourite authors; research Christmas stories and traditions in other countries; continue to read for enjoyment and undertake core reading activities based on group novels/storybooks.

Listening and Talking: in addition to every day opportunities for listening and talking across the curriculum, the children will deliver a presentation on a favourite author and they will share a Christmas presentation.

BSL: colours, numbers, finger spelling, family

French: Greetings/introductions, shopping/eating out at cafes or restaurants

Maths and numeracy: multiplication and division; times tables and Fractions Decimals and Percentages. 

Health and Wellbeing: This term our focus will be on Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood. A separate letter will be issued detailing the specific content of the curriculum. For further information, please visit this website: https://rshp.scot

Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM): we will engage in some fun STEM activities linked to Halloween.

Religious and Moral Education: we will determine and understand our school’s ‘core values’; we will learn about the Christmas story and also about Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of Lights.

Expressive Arts: the children will continue their music lessons with Shonagh, focusing on Christmas songs and music making. We will also focus on dramatic storytelling and making Christmas crafts.
